In 2020, Red Olive explored granting opportunities for groups, collectives, and organizations embedded in Southern & Southeastern communities not within an established “cultural district.” Our goal was to infuse these collectives with funding that would allow them to execute the final stages of a project that otherwise might not be for lack of resources. Providing funds for specific, small-scale projects (rather than larger, long-term projects) also reduced the need for other folks to buy into the project and the possibility that the scope of the project would change.

In 2021 and beyond, we plan to invest more, and invite you to submit a project.
Eligibility
- Organization, group, or collective (not individuals) working within a community not within the established boundaries of a cultural district or embedded within a larger cultural institution (some exceptions: if the group is fiscally sponsored by a larger institution but can otherwise make programmatic decisions independently, and the majority of the programming happens not with or within the cultural institution);
- Access to a 501c3 is not required, but evidence of a long-standing relationship with the community is required (for example, through partnerships, residence, etc.), as well as evidence of prior work similar to the proposed project.
- The project for which you are requesting funds needs to be able to be fully executed with the funds. Grants range between $500 – $2000. Please allocate a portion of the costs to pay project coordinators and other folks “doing the work.” Funds can be used to purchase tools or technology that will allow you to carry forth the project beyond our initial funding. You will need to submit a budget with the request.
- The project for which you are requesting funds needs to be already planned out—partners identified, location scouted, etc. Our goal is to leverage resources to get you to the finish line!
